What is Master Urban Forestry Training?

Benefits to your community:

Urban forests are all the trees and other vegetation that grow in places where people live, work, and play, from small communities in rural areas to large metropolitan cities. This includes trees on public and private land, along streets, in residential areas, parks, and commercial developments, and in other locations within a community. This training will help you understand and communicate the many advantages of, and the expenses associated with, the growth, and management of urban forests.

How can Master Urban Forestry Training be started in my community?

On behalf of the Mississippi Urban Forest Council (MUFC) I would like to invite you to participate in several projects that would be helpful to your community’s development. As MUFC’s new board president, I encourage you to join MUFC to learn more about urban forestry benefits for your community,” Mayor Gene McGee.

As a result of Hurricane Katrina, our organization has received federal funding to provide urban forestry services to the cities impacted by the storm.

The free opportunities we can offer these cities include:

1.  Master Urban Forestry Training for your city employees, citizens and others.

2.  Supplies to establish a city tree nursery.

3.  Space to highlight your community recovery and tree projects in the 2nd edition of the  Mississippi Municipal League’s Special Edition of Urban Forestry.

The free programs are limited to Hurricane Katrina impacted communities only and have limited availability, so please contact us by August 31, 2007 if you are interested or need more information.

Services we can offer all MUFC member communities in the state include:

1.  Grant Resources and quarterly mailings

2.  Virtual Green Make-Overs and CMO credits

3.  Updates on all resources for community and urban forestry/Tree City USA Training

4.  Participation on the committee “Mayor’s for Urban Forestry”

5.  Master Urban Forestry Training at a nominal fee

6.  Comprehensive urban forestry (green infrastructure) planning for your community

Please call to participate in any of the programs offered to all cities.   City membership to the Mississippi Urban Forest Council is only $100 annually and will provide a variety of valuable benefits to your city.

You may contact me at (601) 672-0755 or dyowell@aol.com.

Sincerely, Donna Yowell, Executive Director
