Join us for the Mississippi Urban Forest Council’s 18th annual
conference focusing this year on creating sustainable green infrastructure in
your community. The conference will
feature industry experts who will share their knowledge and life experiences
with trees and development, especially in urban areas and business districts.
The conference will feature five nationally renowned experts in the fields of
urban forestry and landscape architecture, a pre-conference workshop about tree
appraisals, and the presentation of the Mississippi Urban Forest Council’s Green
Awards.

Kim Coder.
Professor of Community Forestry and
Arboriculture at the University
of Georgia’s Warnell School
of Forestry and Natural Resources.
Dr. Coder is a renowned educator, lecturer and author, and is often considered the “father of urban
forestry.” He has conducted tree
workshops throughout the country. Hear about his lifetime of experiences
with urban trees during this information and action packed four hour workshop.
James
Urban. Jim Urban is a
landscape architect with Urban and Associates, Inc., and urban arborist with
over 30 years experience in urban development and planting trees in difficult
urban sites. Awarded the ASLA’s
Landscape
Architect Medal of Excellence in 2007 for significant contributions
to landscape architecture policy, research, education, project planning, and
design, Jim’s efforts have led to testing of new urban tree systems, planting
concepts, and innovative approaches to landscape architecture design, detailing,
and specifications. He will share
his experiences and you will hear from his new book “Up By Roots.”
Dennis ‘Buck’ Abbey.
Buck Abbey
is associate professor of Landscape Architecture at Louisiana State
University and principal consultant to the
Louisiana
landscape architecture - planning firm, Abbey Associates, Inc. He is a recognized authority on
municipal landscape codes and author of books.
Mr. Abbey writes regularly on landscape codes and related municipal
planning law.
He will share the
latest from his book, “Super Tree Laws.”
Edward L. Blake, Jr.
Ed Blake is the
principal of the Landscape Studio, Hattiesburg,
Mississippi, and
is a forerunner of sustainable landscape design in the South and has worked on master
planning for the University of Southern Mississippi
and the Crosby Arboretum. His
work
streams from life lessons of how infrastructure interacts with the land's
ecosystem services. Working with Spence Kellum, they compile system mosaics to
evaluate site impacts of planning and design decisions. The
Studio's work is published worldwide.
Malcolm Guidry.
Mr. Guidry is a Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture
and professional tree appraiser from Covington, Louisiana. Learn about his guidelines for tree
appraisals and their use.
Continuing Education Credits:
3 CMO from MML will be available for elected officials. CEUs for arborists, foresters,
planners, landscape architects, parks and recreation, public works, landscape
gardeners, nurserymen are being sought.
All Attendees that complete this conference will receive
certification by the Mississippi Urban Forest Council’s Master Urban Forestry
program.
